Mycelium is a naturally occurring Vanilla Minecraft block normally only found in the Mushroom Island Biome. It can spread to adjacent Dirt blocks similarly to Grass. It can only be picked with a shovel with the Silk Touch enchantment.
Some mods add a few additional ways of obtaining Mycelium. MineFactory Reloaded's Sludge Boiler will occasionally produce Mycelium along with other materials. Mycelium can be produced as a byproduct of a Forestry Moistener when seeds are used in the secondary input slot.
The Mutating Sprig from Witchery can also be used to mutate Grass into Mycelium. In Ex Nihilo, Ancient Spores can be obtained by putting Sand through a Sieve. These can then be used to convert Dirt To Mycelium. Once one block has been changed, it will spread to other blocks around it.
