Rubber is one of the most important IndustrialCraft2 resources. It is primarily used for insulating Cables, which are used to transport energy and to craft Electronic Circuits and other electric machines. Uninsulated cables conducting electricity will electrocute nearby players, and most components only accept insulated cables in their recipes, so it is almost always advisable or necessary to insulate cables.
Rubber can be obtained in several ways. The primary method is by refining Sticky Resin using a Furnace or Extractor, with the latter being the most efficient method, returning three Rubber per resin instead of one. Extracting either Rubber Wood or Rubber Tree Saplings also produces one Rubber. Note that this does not work with RedPower 2 Rubber Saplings.
Rubber can also be obtained from Slimeballs by processing them in an Extractor, which yields 3 rubber, while smelting a Slimeball in a Furnace yields 1 Sticky Resin.
