The Liquid Heat Exchanger is a machine added by the IndustrialCraft2 mod. It is used to generate Heat Units (HU) from hot liquids - namely by turning Lava into Pahoehoe Lava or by turning Hot Coolant into Coolant.
Like many machines in IC2, when placed it will be facing the player who placed it - distinguishable by the orange square on the face. This indicates the heat output side. The Liquid Heat Exchanger has a GUI - able to take between two and ten Heat Conductors. It requires at least two Heat Conductors to operate. Each Heat Conductor adds to the yield of HU/t by 10 HU/mB, meaning that there is almost no reason to use fewer than the full ten heat conductors.
Fluids may be either piped in, or be inserted via cells (which will be automatically emptied). The Exchanger only operates when there is somewhere to direct the heat through its "heat face" - meaning that it will not "waste" hot liquids if there is no work to be done using them.
Like many machines in IndustrialCraft2, it accepts machine upgrades. The most useful of these are the Fluid Ejector upgrades, which allow for easy automation of liquids without using blocks or pipes from other mods.
