The Basic Gas Tank is the entry-tier gas storage block added by Mekanism. It stores a single gas produced by Mekanism machines such as Hydrogen, Oxygen or Sulfur Dioxide and exchanges it through five of its faces; the remaining face, marked with a small dot, is the dedicated output. Gases can be moved in or out either by direct contact with another gas-aware block or through Pressurized Tubes.

The tank's GUI exposes a vent button next to the stored gas name to dump unwanted gas, plus two slots for filling and draining gas-storing items such as a Jetpack, Scuba Tank or another Gas Tank: items in the + slot are filled from the tank, items in the - slot are drained into it. Right-clicking the tank with a Configurator rotates it; sneak-right-clicking dismantles it while preserving its contents. The dropped item also keeps its gas, so a Basic Gas Tank can be carried as a portable canister, and it can be slotted directly into a Mekanism machine to either supply or be filled with gas depending on which slot it is placed into. A Basic Gas Tank can be upgraded into an Advanced Gas Tank by surrounding it with Enriched Alloy.
