The Iron Tank Valve is a multiblock structure component added by Railcraft. Made from Iron Plates, Iron Bars and a Lever, it is used to make Iron Tanks, which are used to store liquids. The Iron Tank Valve allows the tank to interact with other machines by allowing liquids to be pumped in or out from things like BuildCraft Fluid Pipes or Liquid Loaders. A tank can have any number of valves, and they can be placed in any non-corner or edge section.
While Liquids can be inserted into the tank through a valve regardless of location, for extracting the liquid it is recommend to place a valve in the bottom two layers. This is because liquid can only be accessed if it is above or at the valve level, so it will not be possible to empty a tank if the valve is placed anywhere else.
It is possible to replace an existing Iron Tank Wall or Iron Tank Gauge with an Iron Tank Valve by breaking the block and replacing it; the contents of the tank will not be lost unless the top or bottom center block is broken. Therefore it is not necessary to know exactly where valves will be needed before building a tank.
Iron Tank Valves can be colored with any color dye, changing the color of the texture, allowing you to make more visually distinct tanks.
