The Light Sensor is a block added by the RedPower 2 mod that detects how much light from the sky (either sunlight or moonlight) is falling on it. If sufficient light falls on it, then it will output a Redstone signal. It has four different levels of adjustment to determine how much light is necessary to output a Redstone signal. The most inclusive level outputs a Redstone signal even at midnight if the moon is visible, while the most exclusive level works only in full daylight.
To adjust the sensor level, you have to shift click on it with a screw driver. This will toggle between detecting block lightings above 1, 5, 9, and 13. For reference, Daylight is level 15, moonlight is level 4, and a redstone torch is level 7.
