The Grinder is a machine from the Factorization mod, used to turn ores into ore gravel, part of a process to increase the output of your metals.
Out of all the ways to increase ore yield the Grinder offers the second highest yield for coal (3.5 per ore) and diamonds (2.25 per ore), and unless the secondary outputs of the Industrial Grinder are desired, the Grinder -> Mixer -> Slag Furnace -> Crystallizer -> Smelt process also has the second highest yield for iron, Tin, Copper, and Lead at 3 ingots per ore. It is only outperformed by the RotaryCraft Grinder, which on average yields five of the respective resource per ore.
The grinder takes 10 seconds to start operating. When it is started, each recipe takes 12 seconds.
As of Minecraft 1.6, the Grinder has been deprecated and replaced by the Lacerator, a Socket Block part. The original Grinder can no longer be crafted, but any existing grinders can be placed into a crafting grid to be converted directly to a Lacerator.
