Heat Sand is a block added by the Natura mod. It spawns in the Nether, and causes fire damage to the player if not wearing boots. Heat Sand also seems to be less than a full block high, meaning that placing Heat Sand in the ground in front of a 2-block-high doorway will block most mob-entry. This is the same property of Soul Sand, only without the slowing effect that is associated with Soul Sand.
Similar to Gravel, Heat Sand can generate without a block below it, potentially creating ceilings or ledges, just waiting to collapse.
