Prior to Biomes O' Plenty 1.7.2-2.0.0.718, the Ancient Staff created a portal to the dimension called Promised Land, which after right clicking appears in the sky (Y=146-168). This action depletes the Ancient Staff, which then can be recharged by putting a Nether Star next to it in a crafting table.
