The Shovel of the Purifier is a shovel with several extra abilities. First it is able to dig through tainted earth as fast as through normal earth, which makes it the fastest tool to break such blocks.
When digging through taint with the shovel there is the chance that Taint Shard will drop. This is the only way to obtain these shards.
Finally, when right-clicked, the shovel will remove all the Flux gas and fluid in the small radius, making it the easiest way to remove all Flux left from alchemy and infusions. However, this will cost some durability.

"Sometimes, the easiest way to remove patches of taint is to just physically remove them.
By reinforcing a thaumium shovel with Silverwood and Order Shards, you have created a tool capable of combating Taint. The Shovel of the Purifier can dig through pulpy tainted lands as effectively as it can through normal earth.
If held in your hand and right-clicked, the shovel will purify all flux goo and gas from the small radius at the cost of durability. You no longer have to clean up infusion mishaps with a piece of cobblestone!
When digging through taint with the shovel, there's a chance that the twisted energies released will crystalline into Taint Shards. Unlike other tainted materials, the crystalline pattern keeps these shards stable enough to carry around."
