Talk:IndustrialCraft 2 Experimental
Proposed Merge[edit]
I disagree with the merge proposal. The differences between IndustrialCraft2 and IndustrialCraft2 Experimental are as significant as the changes from Thermal Expansion to Thermal Expansion, or from Thaumcraft 3 to Thaumcraft 4. Just because the authors didn't signify these changes with a full-fledged version update doesn't mean that separating the versions on the wiki is a bad idea; I think having separate pages makes for easier documentation of differences between the two versions. --timrem (talk) 21:13, 11 May 2014 (CEST)
- The differences between IndustrialCraft2 and IndustrialCraft2 Experimental are not nearly as fundamental as the examples you gave. Thermal Expansion introduced Redstone Flux, completely changing most of the dynamics of how the mod worked and what it interacted with. Industrialcraft's kept the EU system and practically all of the machines and functionality it had with the only changes being fairly peripheral (eg. machines don't explode when fed too much EU, UU Matter is now a liquid, most handheld items have changed recipes). - I'd say that the changes to Thermal Expansion were not as major as those to IC2. After all, RF has exactly the same mechanics as MJ, other than being a separate energy system. Of course IC2's energy system remained the same, but there have been some changes to the voltage tiers - the MFE has been moved from Medium to High Voltage, replacing the MFSU, which now uses Extreme Voltage. Almost every recipe has been changed, Refined Iron has been removed completely, there are numerous new machines, a new multi-step ore processing flow, etc. It's also worth noting that we've only created separate articles for the mods themselves, i. e. Thermal Expansion and Thermal Expansion, or IndustrialCraft2 and IndustrialCraft2 Experimental respectively. The blocks and items themselves still share one page though, since the updates didn't completely revamp their functionality - for example the Pulverizer and MFE contain informations about both versions of the respective mods, or a note about the changes in between versions. --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 20:44, 14 May 2014 (CEST)
- I agree. Having separate pages helps people who play on different versions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.85.5.42 (talk · contribs) at 03:46, 8 July 2014 (CEST)
Also disagreeing with the merge proposal. When we have very few players still playing the older modpacks the merge will make more sense, but until then, it's better to have separate pages. -- Xirema (talk) 04:17, 6 August 2014 (CEST)
Also disagreeing with the proposal. IC2 Experimental is changing constantly, and keeping the old information around does not hurt; whereas the new information added is regularly out of date quickly. It's better in both cases to keep them separate, especially as IC2 Experimental continues to diverge further from traditional IC2 (e.g. the addition of new multiblock reactors and heat/rotational speed mechanics in 1.7.10). Alright, I think that's a clear result. Going to remove the merge proposal for now. --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 13:16, 6 August 2014 (CEST)
