The Backpack is an item added by the BetterStorage mod. It works as a portable chest rather than an expansion to the inventory and does not open automatically when the player uses a Crafting Table.

A backpack can be placed in the world as a block. Sneak-clicking a placed backpack equips it on the player's back, and the inventory of an equipped backpack can be opened with the default keybind "B". Sneak-using with an empty hand while a backpack is equipped drops it at the player's feet. The backpack is also dropped on death.

A dropped backpack keeps the items stored inside. Placed backpacks are immune to lava, but a backpack dropped without being placed first is destroyed along with its contents if it lands in lava.
