The Booze Barrel is an item added by IndustrialCraft2 for use in fermenting alcohol; a potion-like drink with varying effects depending on the brew.
The barrel must be right-clicked onto Scaffolding before ingredients can be added to it. The main component used for brewing beer is Hops which are acquired through Crop crossbreeding. Other ingredients include Water Cells, Wheat, and Sugar Cane (although Sugar Cane is used for brewing Rum and can only be fermented by itself). When right-clicked with an ingredient, the whole stack of items is added to the barrel (up to 32 items for each ingredient). The ratio of these ingredients and the time spent fermenting determines the effects and potency of the booze. The barrel can ferment for 2 to 12 hours or more.
The longer a brew ferments, the more potent its effects will be when consumed. Known effects include: Strength, Resistance, Fire Resistance, Blindness, Instant Damage, Instant Death, Mining Fatigue, Nausea, Poison, and Slowness.
When the player is ready to collect the batch, they must right-click the barrel with a Treetap which will pause the fermenting process and allow liquor to be collected. A tapped Booze Barrel can be right-clicked with a Stone Mug to collect and drink the contents. Any tool can be used to recollect a Booze Barrel and its contents will remain intact. The Scaffold the barrel was placed on and its Treetap (if available) will be dropped when the barrel is broken. The fermenting process will continue in a non-empty barrel after it is placed back on Scaffolding.
Ingredients are added to the brew by right-clicking with them on a Booze Barrel. A maximum of 32 items of each ingredient may be added to a single barrel. Sugar Cane is an exception which can only be placed in an empty Booze Barrel. Upon right-clicking, the whole stack of ingredients will be added up to the barrel's limit. The number of Water Cells placed in a barrel is equivalent to the number of servings the batch will provide.
There is no way to identify the ingredients inside a barrel or its fermentation progress without breaking the barrel and reading its item name. Each brew has a unique name made up of three words which depend on the ingredients and ferment time:
|Brew's First Word||Solids () to Liquids ()|
|Brew's Second Word||Wheat () to Hops ()|
|Brew's Third Word||Fermenting Time|
|Brew||Less than two hours|
|Youngster||Two to four hours|
|Beer||Four to twelve hours|
|Ale||Twelve to twenty four hours|
|DragonBlood||More than twenty four hours|
