Here's my understanding: GregTech changes how metal blocks work: rather than crafting to get back 9 ingots, you have to smelt them. Tinkers' Construct adds a mechanic that allows a pickaxe with fortune and auto-smelt to apply the fortune effect to the output of smelting operations (this is intentional, and allows things such as getting multiple charcoal from chopping one log). Together, this creates an item dupe exploit where you create a Block of Iron, for example, and then mine it to get more than nine ingots back. While this was eventually resolved with config options and such, at the peak of the conflict, one of the mods would return an error and close minecraft if it detected that the other mod was installed. --timrem (talk) 04:27, 30 January 2014 (CET)
