Pearls can sometimes be found inside oysters. You can also place sand inside of oysters and over time they will convert them into a pearl. This process can be automated with the use of hoppers. You can collect oysters by breaking the block they are sitting on. There are a total of 12 that can be collected. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Pink, Gold, Silver, White, Brown and Black. You can occasionally get an ender pearl from a pearl oyster.

The colour of the Pearl has an influence on the "elemental affinity" enchantment of jewelry:
