The Enchanted Book is an item from vanilla Minecraft. It stores one or more enchantments that can later be transferred onto another tool, weapon, armor piece or fishing rod, allowing the player to keep a useful enchantment in reserve until the right base item becomes available.
Obtaining
The Enchanted Book is most commonly produced by placing a vanilla Book in an Enchantment Table. Spending between 1 and 3 experience levels per attempt, the table rolls a random enchantment with a power scaled to the surrounding bookshelves, producing a book preloaded with the chosen enchantment. Enchanted Books may also be:
- Found in Dungeon, Stronghold, Mineshaft, Desert Temple and Jungle Temple chests.
- Caught while Fishing (treasure category, with luck of the sea improving the odds).
- Traded from a Librarian villager in exchange for Emeralds.
Usage
Enchanted Book can be used to create the following items:
Combining and Applying
Two Enchanted Books with compatible enchantments can be combined in an Anvil to merge their stored enchantments into a single book. Combining two books that hold the same enchantment at the same level produces a book with that enchantment at the next level, up to the enchantment's normal cap.
To apply an enchantment from a book onto an item, place the target item in the first slot of the Anvil and the Enchanted Book in the second slot. The Anvil consumes experience levels equal to the enchantment's cost and outputs the item with the enchantment applied. The book is destroyed in the process.
Mod Interactions
A number of mods use the Enchanted Book as a key ingredient or interact with its stored enchantments:
- Enchanting Plus uses the Enchanted Book as the centerpiece of every variant of its decorative open-book block, including the
Enchanting Plus Book,
Prismarine Book,
Nether Book,
Pale Book and
Metal Book.
- Mariculture can craft and apply books holding its custom enchantments.
- The Filing Cabinet is a convenient way to keep large numbers of Enchanted Books organized.
