Mana (Botania)
| This article is about Botania's Mana. You may be looking for Mana (Ars Magica 2). |
Mana is the energy type used in Botania. It is made by Generating Flowers, stored in Mana Pools and Mana Tablets, and consumed by other machines such as the Runic Altar and Terrestrial Agglomeration Plate. Mana powers everything in Botaina; repairing equipment like the Starcaller sword, increasing the ability of a Terra Shatterer pixaxe, or granting flight with a Flügel Tiara. Mana is a fundamental concept to Botania much like EU is for IndustrialCraft2 or RF for Thermal Expansion. Without it, very little progress in Botania is possible. Mana is measured in micropools, with a full Mana Pool holding one million units.
Generating Flowers
There are many generating flowers, most of which are made in the Petal Apothecary. Each has a small internal buffer for Mana, but needs to have a Mana Spreader nearby to send power to. Flowers can be bound to specific spreaders with a Wand of the Forest. Passive flowers make Mana constantly as long as their conditions are met. Active flowers consume some other nearby resource to make Mana, effectively needing fuel and tend to be far more powerful than their passive counterparts.

Storage
Mana Spreaders don't have a very big internal buffer for Mana, so typically they are linked to one or more Mana Pools. These serve as batteries for Mana, though they again need a Mana Spreader or Spark to send power to other locations. For powering carried equipment, a Mana Tablet, Band of Mana or Greater Band of Mana will provide it to carried items.
Transmission
Mana travels in particle based pulses from Spreaders to Pools or other consumers. These pulses can be modified with Mana Lenses and a wide variety of logistics blocks - see the 'Functional Blocks' subsection in the navigation box at the bottom of the page. Sparks offer faster transmission rates than spreaders, though they are more limited in which blocks they can be used with. Combined with Recessive and Dominant augments, multiple pools can be linked together into a larger network. There's also a mobile version of the Mana Pool in the form of Minecart with Mana Pool. A Mana Mirror can link a Mana Pool with a player, recharging most items 'wirelessly'.
