LaserIO is a mod by Direwolf20 that moves items, fluids, Forge Energy, and redstone signals between blocks over a single compact network. It replaces racks of pipes, ducts, and cables with one block, the Laser Node, whose behavior is decided entirely by the cards slotted into it.
Nodes and networks
Everything in LaserIO runs on Laser Nodes. A node is placed against the chests, tanks, and machines it should serve, and each of its six sides carries a grid of card slots. Nodes are joined into a shared network with the Laser Wrench, reaching up to 8 blocks between links. Laser Connectors act as cheap relays to stretch a network further, and an Advanced Laser Connector pairs two points at unlimited range, even across dimensions. An entire base can run on one network, so a resource pulled from storage in one room can arrive at a machine in another.
Cards
Cards are what actually do the work, and a node does nothing without them. Each card handles a single resource, whether items, fluids, energy, or redstone, and is set to a mode that decides its job: extracting from the neighboring block, inserting into it, keeping a stocked amount, or sensing its contents. Cards only interact with other cards on the same colored channel, so several independent routes can share one network without crossing over. The Redstone Card carries signals across the network on its own dedicated channel.
Filters and tuning
What a card is allowed to move is narrowed by a filter slotted into it, from a plain Basic Filter item list to filters that match by count, tag, source mod, or data component. Throughput is raised with two kinds of upgrade, a Card Overclocker that speeds up one card and a Node Overclocker that lets a node side run more of its cards each tick. The Card Holder and Card Cloner take the busywork out of building and copying card setups by hand.
