The Enhanced Building Guide is a utility block that helps players to build complex shapes. Like the basic Building Guide, it can project a variety of forms around itself as white non-solid transparent blocks. This projection can be used to guide manual block placement. The Building Guide must be powered with a Redstone signal to display the guide, typically a Lever. It prints the size, shape and number of blocks needed to create the displayed shape in the chat any time it is changed. Dyes can be used to change the opacity / brightness of the projection and all settings are saved even when it's broken and moved elsewhere.

The Enhanced Building Guide has one additional feature; when right-clicked with blocks, it will fill in the projection. Right-click can be held down to continuously feed blocks into the Guide. Almost any placable block can be thus deployed, as long as its conditions are met - for example flowers will need to have some kind of dirt below the projection. Non-placeable items such as tools, weapons or resources are ignored. If the player quickly switches between multiple block types in the hotbar, a psudo-random effect can be achieved.

Controls

To select a shape, use the ^ shaped buttons on the top or bottom face. The long arrows on the top/bottom face rotate the projection 90°. Symmetrical shapes won't change and some shapes can only have a height of 1 block, see below.

To change the size of the shape, two faces of the Building Guide need to be used. Each face adjusts up to four directions with the +/- buttons affecting the projection on the side closest to themselves. If the projection is confusing, hit all the minus buttons on two sides until the displayed size is (0,0,0):(0,0,0) and add blocks on each axis until satisfied.

To center the projection, use any of the four ( shaped buttons on the sides surrounding the center of the face. This does not change the overall size but attempts to put the Building Guide as close to the middle of each axis as possible. They all do the same thing, which may be nothing if the projection is already centered.

The only difference between the Building Guide and Enhanced Building Guide's controls is that the player must have an empty hand to interact with the Enhanced Building Guide, as right-cicking with a held item attempts to place it as a block.

Previous Versions

Prior to 1.7.10, This block was solid and had far less flexibility. See Building Guide for basic legacy controls.

Creative Mode: In creative mode, the Advanced Building Guide could place blocks where the transparent projections show. An Obsidian blockwas placed on top of the advanced building guide (carefully, remember, right click will change dimensions and shift-right click will change shapes). Then simply right click on it with the block you wish to use in your hand.
