Advanced Hook Launchers is a mod by EnderTech that adds grappling-hook launchers to the game. Each launcher fires a tethered hook that grabs on to whatever it hits, then reels the player in, swings them on the rope, or yanks the target back toward the player, depending on which type of hook is loaded.
The mod ships three flavors of launcher (Pudge, Spear, and Web) plus a non-functional Launcher Prototype that is crafted first and used as the base for the others.
Controls
The launcher binds its actions to a configurable keybind set. Two full sets exist (main-hand and off-hand) so the player can carry two launchers and use them independently.
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Launch | Fires the hook. While it is in flight, the rope plays out from the launcher. |
| Reel / Unhook | Pulls the player toward the hook anchor at the launcher's reeling speed, or detaches the hook if it is already at the player. |
| Pull | Tightens the rope to drag the hooked target back toward the player. Pudge launchers can drag mobs and other players, while heavier targets resist based on the launcher's shooter weight factor. |
| Loosen | Lets out more slack so the rope hangs longer. |
| Jump Boost | While pulling, jumping with this key gives an extra vertical kick whose strength is set per launcher. |
| Tarzan Jump | While swinging, a double-tap of this key launches the player at the apex of the swing. |
The launcher's tooltip lists the exact keys currently bound for both hands. Holding Shift on the tooltip switches to its stat summary; holding Control switches to the full control reference.
Launchers
All four launchers are crafted at a Crafting Table using a Launcher Prototype as the base. The functional launchers wrap the prototype with the matching hook, two strings, and two dye stacks that color the rope. Empty (used) launchers can be refilled with strings in an Anvil to restore durability.
| Launcher | Durability | Launch velocity | Reeling speed | Jump boost | Tarzan jump | Shooter weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 300 | 1.5 | 0.7 | 0.6 | 0.6 | 20.0 | |
| 180 | 2.5 | 0.5 | 0.8 | 0.8 | 4.0 | |
| 240 | 2.0 | 0.8 | 1.0 | 1.0 | 0.5 |
The Launcher Prototype is craftable but cannot be fired on its own and exists purely as a crafting component for the three functional launchers.
Hooks and ropes
Each launcher type has its own hook with its own behavior, plus a rope that determines reach and swing feel. The hook decides which blocks it sticks to, which it shatters on impact, and which it bounces off of.
| Hook | Strength | Damage | Resistance | Rope max length | Rope elasticity | Rope color |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10.0 | 0.0 | 10.0 | 32 | 0.0 | Dark Red | |
| 5.0 | 2.0 | 5.0 | 64 | 0.6 | Black | |
| 2.0 | 0.0 | 1.0 | 76 | 0.95 | White |
- Pudge Hook breaks glass on impact and bounces off gravels, sands, dirt and mud. It carries the highest strength of any hook, which is the main stat behind the Pudge launcher's mob-yanking pull.
- Spear Hook deals contact damage on impact, breaks glass blocks and panes, bounces off Obsidians, storage blocks and bedrock, and ignores dropped item entities. It is the only hook that hurts targets.
- Web Hook breaks gravel and sand on impact and bounces off dirt and mud. Its rope is by far the longest and stretchiest of the three, which makes Web launchers the natural choice for Tarzan-style swing setups.
Configuration
The mod's config exposes per-hook, per-rope and per-launcher tunables, plus block tag lists for which blocks a hook can stick to, break or rebound off. The default values match the stat tables above; the config file is split into one section per hook type so the launchers can be re-balanced independently.
