The Template is an item from Extra Bees that is used to turn any given species of bee into a mundane bee. When created, the Template is blank. It can be turned into a defined template (in that there is a species attached to it) by placing it in a Sequencer and providing the Sequencer with MJ and bees of a type which there is a template for. Templates can be created for all of the Forestry hive bees (except, for unknown reasons, the Marshy Bee) and for the Rocky Bee added by Extra Bees.
Once a Template has been defined in a Sequencer (typically takes about 12 drones/3 princesses and a lot of power) it can be used in a Splicer to graft the desired species of mundane bee onto another bee regardless of the target bee's species. Templates of better quality (the way that the "quality" of a template is determined is currently unknown) appear to affect more of a bee's traits. For example, a template of average quality will affect both species traits and one of the lifespan traits of another given bee with an entirely different genome.
As with serums, as quality gets lower, there may be a chance that, with Poor or Awful quality templates, the bee's fertility trait will be changed so that it has a chance of dropping no princess at the end of its life. Currently, the exact effects are unknown.
